Origins Of The Daywalker

Created by Gene Colan and Marv Wolfman, Eric Brooks (better known as Blade) is a Marvel Comics hero who first appeared in The Tomb Of Dracula #10 (1973). Despite starting off as a supporting character, Blade has taken on the leading role in his own series of comic books and become a major player in the Marvel Universe.

In the comics, Eric became part-vampire after his mother was killed by one of the creatures during labour, thus granting him an immunity to vampire bites. He later started using his unique physiology to hunt these supernatural beings, having been trained by Jamal Afari. Over time, his talent for wielding knives and daggers earned him the nickname Blade.

In addition to his appearances in comics, Blade has received a number of live-action adaptations. Notably, the character featured in a trilogy of films — Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), and Blade: Trinity (2004) — that starred Wesley Snipes as the eponymous Eric Brooks. In 2006, a TV series was released with Kirk ‘Sticky Fingaz’ Jones in the title role.

Eventually, the rights for the character reverted back to Marvel, and Kevin Feige (the president of Marvel Studios) announced that Blade (played by actor Mahershala Ali) would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
