The Master Of Horror

Born in the late ‘40s, John Carpenter is a well-known figure in the entertainment industry. Throughout his career, he has worked as an actor, composer, and (perhaps most famously) a filmmaker. His library of movies comprises the likes of Dark Star (1974), Assault On Precinct 13 (1976), Halloween (1978), The Fog (1980), Escape From New York (1981), The Thing (1982), Christine (1983), Starman (1984), Big Trouble In Little China (1986), Prince Of Darkness (1987), They Live (1988), and In The Mouth Of Madness (1995). Many of these are cult classics, having received mixed or outright negative reactions at the time of their original release.

Generally, Carpenter focuses his attention on a select few genres: action, science-fiction, and horror. The latter of these has become a staple of his work, establishing him as a master of all things terrifying. Despite his extended hiatus throughout the early 2000s, audience’s enthusiasm for his work has never dissipated, and his return to the Halloween franchise — for the 2018 direct sequel to his original film — was welcomed with open arms.

In addition to his filmography, Carpenter boasts an impressive track record in composing and co-composing musical scores. His work on the film Vampires (1998) even earned him a Saturn Award for Best Music, a landmark achievement for one of the industry’s greatest talents.
