A Blood-Sucking Ride

Based on a screenplay by Jeffrey Boam, The Lost Boys (1987) is a supernatural film directed by Joel Schumacher, who is also known for his work on projects such as Tigerland (2000) and Batman Forever (1995). The movie — which features a cast composed of Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz, Corey Feldman, Billy Wirth, Brooke McCarter, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander, Dianne Wiest, Edward Herrmann, and Barnard Hughes — focuses on Michael (Patric) and Sam Emerson (Haim) as they move to Santa Carla, a town in California.

Living alongside their mother, Lucy (Wiest), and grandfather (Hughes), the two boys become acquainted with their new home, which is plagued by a series of disappearances. Michael takes an interest in a young woman called Star (Gertz), who hangs around with David (Sutherland), the leader of a gang referred to as the Lost Boys. He eventually finds himself being initiated into the gang, taking part in a ceremony that involves drinking blood. After falling over the side of a railroad bridge, he wakes and discovers that he has been turned into a vampire, though the process can still be reversed. Sam, provided with knowledge from vampire hunters Edgar (Feldman) and Alan Frog (Newlander), deduces that they need to kill the head vampire, and the pair set out to confirm the identity of the gang’s sire.

A critical and commercial success, the film spawned two direct sequels: The Tribe (2008) and The Thirst (2010). Both of these films feature the return of Feldman, who continues his fight against vampirism.
