Welcome To Monstropolis

Released in 2001, Monsters, Inc. is an animated film that was created by Pixar Animation Studios. Pete Docter directed the movie, and he was supported by the musical talents of Randy Newman, a composer who had worked on previous Pixar projects (Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and A Bug’s Life).

The story focuses on two monsters — James P. “Sully” Sullivan (John Goodman) and Michael “Mike” Wazowski (Billy Crystal) — who live in the appropriately named Monstropolis, a city powered by children’s screams. They both work at Monsters, Incorporated, where trained “scarers” travel to the bedrooms of human children and terrify them in order to harness energy. Unfortunately, as children become more desensitized to their scare tactics, the factory is struggling to keep their energy supply going, a problem to which CEO Henry J. Waternoose III (James Coburn) is trying to find a solution.

One day, Sully encounters a young girl who enters the factory. Throughout the course of the film, he and Mike attempt to protect this girl (Mary Gibbs), whom they nickname “Boo”, from the clutches of the Child Detection Agency (CDA) and the purple-scaled monster Randal (Steve Buscemi). They soon discover that Waternoose has developed a contraption to forcefully extract screams, forcing the pair to expose the operation.

In 2013, Pixar released the much-anticipated prequel, Monsters University. This movie centres around Sully and Mike’s days in college, exploring how they became friends. Audiences also meet a variety of colorful characters, all of whom are voiced by talent actors: Scott “Squishy” Squibbles (Peter Sohn), Don Carlton (Joel Murray), Johnny J. Worthington III (Nathan Fillion), and Chet Alexander (Bobby Moynihan) — among others.
